Abstract

In order to study the effect of the position of the pods on the oil content of the grain was held in the agricultural year 2010/11, a trial with soybean cultivars in the experimental area of the Federal University of Tocantins, Palmas-TO. The experimental design was a randomized block design with 30 treatments and three replications. The treatments were arranged in a split plot, being allocated to parcels ten cultivars, and subplots, the placement of the pods on the plant (lower third, middle third and upper third). The cultivars showed an average oil content of 23.8, 21.5 and 19.4%, respectively, for the lower, middle and upper canopy. BRS Valuable P98Y51 and had the highest oil content for all positions. When sampling grain to quantify the oil content of the cultivars, it is recommended to use grains of pods from the same plant position.
